FIFTH DAY – PROJECT EVALUATION

The fifth day of the meeting (June, 3rd, 2016) was spent making and filling the evaluation form of the project. The results were then analysed, as well as the strong and the weak points of the meeting. Ideas were brought forward about what could be improved and suggestions were made for future projects.

The teams also discussed and evaluated the project as a whole and the last details concerning the intellectual output were establish.

In the afternoon, the partners had the opportunity to attend the festivities organized to celebrate the Medas school day. The Portuguese teachers and students prepared numerous cultural activities and the visitors tasted traditional Portuguese dishes. The evening ended with a pleasat tour of Oporto.

FOURTH DAY – MOBILITY TOOL

The fourth day of the project meeting (June, 2nd, 2016) was dedicated to discussing the project website, its structure, the information it needed to contain and the updated to be added. The suggestions made by each team were taken into consideration and the changes were done by the Romanian partners, who administer the site.

The afternoon was spent discussing the features and proper use of the mobility tool. The teams discussed and worked together. The Portuguese team also presented the project booklet, uploaded on the Joomag platform.

THIRD DAY – ANALYZING LESSON PLANS AND LESSONS

The third day of the project meeting (June, 1st, 2016) was dedicated to analyzing the learning sequences unfolded on the basis of the lesson plans provided by the project partners. Each team described how the lesson took place, the students’ reactions and the outcome. It was observed that these specific learning activities contributed a lot to breaking national stereotypes. They also stirred the interest of the target audience, the young people showing an increase desire to find out more about the project countries.

The last touches were added to the calendar made by the Portuguese team. The intellectual output was also brought into discussion and the conclusions were drawn.

In the afternoon, the students with disabilities, studying at the Portuguese school came to meet the project teams They asked each participant to write down into a notebook the impression Portugal had upon them.

SECOND DAY – DICTIONARY AND PRESENTATION ANALYSIS

The second day of the meeting (May, 31st, 2016) was dedicated to analyzing the impact and useful of the language dictionary and of the presentations done during the past two years.

Each team designated a member who was recorded while pronouncing correctly the words in his/her language so as to create a tool which would be successfully used by all those interested.

The rest of the day was spent discussing about the impact of the project videos and presentations on the teachers and students belonging to the partner schools. It was pointed out that due to them the target audience gained more information and knowledge on the countries involved in the project.

FIRST DAY – WELCOME TO AGRUPAMENTO DE ESCOLAS À BEIRA DOURO

The last, but not the most important transnational meeting of the project took place between May 30th and June 3rd, 2016, in the little town of Medas, Portugal.

It was a fruitful week, during which the partners discussed the unfolding of the project, the problems they encountered while implementing the activities and the results of their fight against national stereotypes.

The first day of the project meeting (May, 30th) began early in the morning, with the Romanian, Turkish and Lithuanian teams arriving at Agrupamento de Escolas a Beira Douro. They were welcomed by the Portuguese teachers and students. After meeting the principal and making the school tour, the teams headed for the classroom especially arranged for the project activities. The day was spent analyzing the project and the activities needed to be done during the following days.

The cultural part implied the visiting of a small, but well-preserved museum, located in the heart of Medas. The partners had the opportunity to find out more about the culture, history and geography of the place.

The Lithuanian Experience

The Students’ Second Transnational Meeting,  which took place in city of Siaulia in Lithuania was a real success. Both students and teachers had the opportunity to learn more about the culture and the history of the hosting country. The friendly atmosphere made room for easy communication and work team.

Outdoor Geography Lesson

We got to Nida Beach on the third day of our wonderful experience. We travelled by the bus for about three hours to get to the ship which took us to the superb beach .

The most interesting fact was that there were sand dunes all over the place. I was really surprised to see The Baltic Sea, the forest and the sand dunes, all in the same place.

We entered the forest where we found lots of interesting wood statues .

Nida Beach is one of the most amazing places i have ever seen and I wish I could see it again.

Visiting the Siauliai Sports School

The time spent in Lithuania was really great. I loved the activities and our hosts, who were very friendly and did their best for us to feel as if we had been at home.

During the first day of our project meeting, we visited “Siauliai Sporto Gimnazija” school. At the entrance, we were kindly welcomed by the school masot. Two girls, dressed up in traditional clothes served us with traditonal cumen bread and salt.

After that, we were led by the Lithuanian students and teachers in the Festivities Hall. At first, we sang the national anthem of each participating country and then we watched a beautiful show, put on stage by our hosts. I found the dancing team pretty amazing and I was impressed by the little children playing the violin so beautifully. We also learnt some basic Lithuanian words.

Each participating country had a short theatrical performance, presenting traditional myths and customs.

I liked this week a lot, because I made new friends from Turkey, Lithuania and Portugal. Moreover, I learnt new, intresting facts about the culture of this Baltic country.

Crafts and Traditional Food Day

Last week, it was the best week in my life. I saw new places and I met special people. This is why, the last day was the hardest and saddest of all.

At 3 p.m,  we went by bus at an old house located outside the city. There,  we met the other students and teachers: Lithuanian, Turkish and Portuguese. It was the last meeting. In the begining we had to arrange a table with traditional Romanian food. Each country had good but strange food. At our table we had zacusca, traditional cheese, sponge cake, tomatoes, onions and many more. We were happy to see how successful our food was. Zacusa was the star of the activity.

Then it was time to learn traditional crafts, We showed the other students how to make special puppets for the 1st of March. We learnt from the Lithuanians how to make hay crowns and from the Portuguese how to make hand-made jewellery.

We also learnt to dance traditional Lithuanian dances and Damat Halayi, a Turkish traditional dance similar to the the Romanian ”hora”. After the sun set,  the Lithuanians lit a great camp fire. We all started to cry, because we realized that in a few hours we would never see each other again.

I wish I could turn back time. I will never forget the people I met during this amazing experience.

Amazing Lithuania

The first day we were greeted at school by the school mascot and two girls who offered us traditional rye bread.

On Monday I went into the Festivities Room, where I had the opportunity to view a nice welcome show prepared by the Lithuanian students and teachers. We listened to the live performance of a highly talented guitarist and of a group of young gifted violonists.

Then, each country presented a national folk tale by means of a theatrical performance. The Lithuanians presented a sea related story. The Portuguese presented us their country and also a folk tale. The Turkish students taught us how to dance some traditional dances. We, the Romanians, presented the danced performed by young, unmarried girls during the Sanziene celebration.

The presentations were followed by ice-breaking activities, which allowed us to know each other better.

Žaliūkių Village Miller’s Farmstead

One of my favourite activities was to bake bread at žaliūkių Village Miller’s Farmstead, where the mistress of the house meets you with a welcoming smile.

We saw the Lithuanian bread baking process and also learned about traditions and rituals. I enjoyed making and decorating my own loaf, bake and taste it.

The traditional Lithuanian bread is black and it is made with natural ingredients (rye).

It was a great experience that I will never forget.

One of the most interesting activities  was the one which took place at the chocolate factory.

Monday, after school activities, we went to the chocolate factory, where we were presented the history of chocolate and various types of chocolate beans. The  chocolate tree comes from South America, from where it was brought to Europe.

There are 3 types of chocolate : ⋅dark chocolate, which contains a very high percentage of chocolate and small percentage of sugar, ⋅milk chocolate with more sugar than chocolate and white chocolate similar to milk chocolate.

My favorite chocolate is milk chocolate because it is very sweet. I was very impressed when I saw a wall of chocolate.  After the presentation, we saw a short movie about Ruda Factory and how they used to make chocolate in the past.

We had the occasion to make our own chocolate in the laboratory. We used marzipan and three kinds of chocolate according to our preference.

I was very happy because I had the chance to see a chocolate laboratory and make my own chocolate. I would love to go there again.

Fifth Day of Work – How Turkish People Talk and Live

The fifth working day of our Transnational Meeting was a very unusual and pleasant one. The morning was spent learning basic words and expressions in Turkish. The host had previously prepared easy to understand videos and presentations for Turkish language learning.

The lessons were held by the teachers of English who helped students improve their pronounciation and gain confidence in their communicative abilities.

The hosts took us into the homes of some Turkish teachers to see how Turkish people live nowadays.

The visting teams had the possibility to see how tradition and modernity blend to form a unique mix in the life of contemporary Turkish people.

The last part of the working day was spent evaluating and assessing the meeting. The students and the teachers had fill-in questionnaires for assessing the meeting.

The Transnational meeting ended with a pleasant farewell dinner which took place in a traditional Turkish restaurant.

All the visiting teams departed  the following day (Saturday-September 17th, 2015)

Fourth Day of Work- Geography Classes and Visiting Sinop

The fourth working day (Thursday- October, 15th, 2015) of our Transnational Meeting was dedicated to geography classes and to visiting the seaside city of Sinop. It was a great opportunity to find out more about the geography and history of the host country.

In the morning, the country and the town presentations brought by the visiting teams, were used as basis for geography lesson attended by Turkish, Romanian, Lithuanian and Portuguese students. The presentations were accompanied by more detailed information and the students had the possibility to ask questions and discuss answers.

The afternoon was spent visiting the city of Sinop. The hosts told us the legend of Diogene (the great philosopher who spent his life in a barrel) and took us to the old Sinop Prison (a museum now) to find out more about the history of modern Turkey.

It was a long and tiresome day, which gave the project partners the opportunity to study together and know each other better.

Third Day of Work- Traditional National Costumes during English Classes

The third working day (Wednesday, October 14th, 2015) of the Transnational Meeting was dedicated to presenting the traditional national costumes of the project countries (Romania, Turkey, Lithuania and Portugal) during the English classes held by the teachers of English, working at the Yil Anadolu Saglik Meslek Lisesi.

In the afternoon the students had the possibility to see normal Turkish people at work. The hosts took us to hazlenut processing factory, that showed the visitors that both Turkish men and women work side by side for the well-being of their families.

The questionnaires applied during the spring months of 2015, pointed out that most students and teachers from the other project countries, pictured the Turkish society as a male dominant, patriarchal one. Seeing women at work in schools, hospitals, universities,  factories, museums, shops, restaurants and many other places, helped students understand that Turkey is a modern society, which offers education and employment possibilities for everyone.

The late hours of the afternoon were spent strolling and then having dinner in the city of Samsun.
